They say that true stars hit their stride later in life. That decades of experience culminate with a sense of truly knowing who you are. A feeling of confidence and ease exuding every aspect of life.
When it comes to Tom Ford however, this is not the case. A man credited to transforming the entire fashion landscape, Ford has been producing show stopping garments since first cutting his teeth on the industry during his stint at Gucci.
The CFDA chairman’s ability to consistently produce contemporary pieces that transcend time and make us feel inexplicably attached to them in a way that can only be described as unrequited is just one of the reasons Ford is considered as a global leader in luxury.
For his Spring 2020 collection, Ford began his creative process the way most designers do – he built a mood board.
Reluctant to share all images he drew inspiration from, making reference to Coco Chanel’s belief that “creativity is the art of concealing one’s source”, Ford did share a handful of archival scenes dating back to the 1960s, including the iconic 1965 photograph of Andy Warhol and Edie Sedgwick coming out of a manhole cover in New York City. Another was Luc Besson’s 1985 film Subway with Isabelle Adjani and Christophe Lambert.
