Ramadan is upon us. But for the everyday Harrolds reader, the traditions and time-old festivities of this sacred, month-long ritual might be a little elusive.
For those embracing the rituals of Ramadan, we’ve canvassed a lineup of considered looks for conservative dressing this month.
With the wisdom of Harrolds’ retail expert Rashelle Korhani, we’re delving into memories of Ramadan food, fashion and family, for everyone (regardless of religion) to find solace in.

For those who aren’t familiar, what is Ramadan?
The holy month of Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It’s a time of year which brings together Muslims worldwide to fast ( from the consumption of food and beverages) from sunrise to sunset. This holy month consists of fasting, prayer, reflection, charity and community. Generally, it’s all about bettering ourselves as individuals and as a community, allowing us to remain humble and stay close to our roots.Charity doesn’t necessarily mean donating in the form of money only. We donate food (Halal meats for the families to break their fast upon) and clothing, as well as helping the less fortunate to prepare for Eid (more on that later).
What does it mean to you? Tell us some of your memories of Ramadan growing up.
Just the thought of Ramadan gives me joy! As a child, my fondest memories would have taken place during the month of Ramadan with all my nearest and dearest, all gathering around the dinner table at my Grandmother’s house. There’s always chatter and laughter in the lead-up to Iftar and the anticipation of which loved one will appear at the door next. It’s a beautiful time of worship, where you can reconnect with friends and family who are both near and far.
How does this impact your day-to-day routine at Harrolds?
Aside from missing my morning coffee, my everyday doesn’t necessarily change all that much. Ramadan allows me to practice being patient and considerate. This is my second Ramadan while working with Harrolds, and I’ve been humbled by the show of support and consideration from the team. It’s so heartwarming to see that.
I understand the display of skin and tight clothing is evaded during this holy month. What are some of the best Harrolds brands to adorn yourself during Ramadan?
Not many people are aware of how many brands Harrolds actually carries that can look absolutely stunning on the modest woman. Some of my personal favourite brands this season would have to include Bottega Veneta, Tom Ford, Khaite, Saks Potts, Christopher Esber and so many more.
What are some of the best Harrolds brands to adorn yourself during Ramadan?
I’m a coat type of girl, you can never have enough Handbags, Heels or Coats! Seeing as it’s only getting colder, by the time we reach Eid it’ll be the perfect time to snatch up the Liv Coat from Saks Potts in Grey. Another piece I absolutely love would have to be the Balmain Ribbed Turtleneck with gold button details in white. This piece again is so versatile. And for the modest woman who wears the Hijab (head scarf), this covers her neck completely. Last but surely not least, I think every woman should have at least one Bottega Veneta Intrecciato Bag. My personal favourite would have to be the Pouch as it’s spacious, classy and fun, all at the same time.
Explain what iftar is, and the relevant dress code…
Iftar is the breaking of the fast for the day. Once the sunset is upon us, we are able to break our fast. My family loves to dress up! Inviting everyone over for iftar (Dinner) is a perfect reason to wear something beautiful. But if you want to see a real fashion show, wait until Eid.
Eid is the main event. It’s the time where we celebrate everything we’ve achieved during the holy month of Ramadan. I was always encouraged by my mother to buy and wear something new for Eid. I’ve always loved to do a mini shopping spree with my sisters during the month of Ramadan, with the question of ‘what are you wearing for Eid?’ floating around everywhere with so much excitement.
