In light of grazing on grassy patches and sidling up to our long lost favourite humans, the average, untouched wardrobe is getting a sudden shakeup. In a costuming call to arms, we’re all hastily raiding through past-life dresses and comfy (but chic) separates to make something of a considered, normal-life-adjacent outfit.
It’s exhilarating, it’s exposing, and perhaps it’s a little bit daunting. When you’re out of a day-to-day dressing routine, be it for work or running usual errands, puzzling together a completely ‘put together’ ensemble can be remembering a once-studied language. Hard pants might feel weird (or likely tight), and footwear becomes a very strange concept. Real sous-vetements will be required and activewear finally thrown into the washing pile.

But the good news is, picnicking is like the soft-launch back into ‘proper’ dressing up. You can be playful and test-run lockdown deliveries from Yours Truly, testing out hypothetical spring-summer combinations and constructions. This is the time to troubleshoot outfits for their flexibility and picnicability.
A wide tote bag is your ultimate accessory, along with plastic cutlery, champagne and an esky. Just like bringing oysters to your next park rendezvous, going a little over the top with your dressing selects is encouraged, commended, and well overdue.
We’ve made it to the Promised Land, and we’ve curated a few road tested picnic ‘fits to get you back in the game, one sun-dappled afternoon at a time.
